Wedding at Conventino di Gradara: Marc & Kayleigh's Destination Wedding

Some weddings begin long before the wedding day.
They begin with a place that already means something to you, with the desire to share a beloved part of Italy with the people you love, and with the idea that your wedding should become an experience rather than simply a single day.
That is exactly what happened for Marc and Kayleigh, a Scottish couple who had known the Marche and Romagna regions for many years and who chose Gradara when they decided to get married in Italy.
Their destination wedding at Conventino di Gradara became an intimate and elegant three-day celebration, designed around the couple, their guests and the experience of discovering this beautiful part of Italy together.
Marc & Kayleigh: choosing Le Marche for their Italian wedding
Marc and Kayleigh had been spending their summer holidays in Cattolica for years, so they already knew and loved this part of Italy.
Choosing Le Marche for their wedding was therefore about much more than finding a beautiful wedding venue in Italy. It meant returning to a place that was already part of their story and sharing it with their closest family and friends.
When they first contacted me, they were looking for help finding the right venue and selecting the vendors who would bring their vision to life.
We visited three different venues together, each with its own character.
Then we arrived at Conventino di Gradara.
And the choice became quite easy.
The intimate atmosphere, the views over the medieval village, the understated elegance of the historic building and its authentic character were exactly what Marc and Kayleigh were looking for.
The Conventino is also a particularly meaningful place for me personally: it is where I chose to get married.
Being able to return there and experience it through Marc and Kayleigh's wedding made this celebration even more special.

Why they chose Conventino di Gradara
Conventino di Gradara is a historic Franciscan convent overlooking the medieval village of Gradara, with gardens, historic interiors and beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
It is the kind of venue that already has a strong identity.
The cloister, terraces, gardens and historic architecture create a naturally elegant setting, meaning that the wedding design does not need to compete with the location.
This was one of the reasons Marc and Kayleigh fell in love with it.
They wanted their wedding to feel refined but authentic, and they wanted their guests to experience something genuinely Italian.
The Conventino offered exactly that: a setting with history, character and a strong connection to the village and the surrounding region.
A wedding weekend in the village of Gradara
One of the most beautiful aspects of Marc and Kayleigh's celebration was their decision to spend real time with their guests.
For an international couple travelling to Italy with family and friends, the journey itself becomes part of the wedding experience.
Marc and Kayleigh therefore booked all the rooms at the Conventino and in the nearby accommodation within the village of Gradara, creating a shared base for their families and bridal party.
Their guests could stay close to one another, enjoy breakfast together, explore the village and experience the wedding weekend as a group.
For many of them, it was their first time visiting Le Marche.
That made the opportunity to introduce them to the local food, landscape and atmosphere an important part of the celebration.
A welcome dinner with a view
The first evening began with a relaxed dinner on a terrace overlooking Gradara.
The menu celebrated the flavours of the Marche and Romagna, giving the guests their first taste of the local cuisine.
It was intentionally informal: a chance to relax, get to know one another and begin celebrating before the wedding day itself.
With the medieval village in the background and the evening light settling over Gradara, it was the perfect beginning to their wedding weekend.
The wedding day at Conventino di Gradara
On the wedding day, the Conventino became the heart of the celebration.
Marc and Kayleigh chose a warm, almost autumnal colour palette that worked beautifully with the architecture and gardens of the venue.
The afternoon light gradually changed throughout the day, eventually creating the magical atmosphere of their sunset celebration.
Every element was designed to feel elegant without becoming overly formal, and refined without losing the warmth and intimacy that were so important to the couple.
Pool party & pizza: the day after
The following day was deliberately more relaxed.
A pool party followed by pizza gave Marc, Kayleigh and their guests the opportunity to slow down after the emotions of the wedding day and simply enjoy being together.
This is one of the things I love most about destination weddings.
The celebration does not necessarily end when the last song of the wedding night finishes.
The conversations, breakfasts, lunches, swims and informal gatherings that happen around the wedding often become some of the most treasured memories of the entire trip.
An elegant and authentic wedding, with warm colours and sunset light
The design for Marc and Kayleigh's wedding was based on a warm, natural and almost autumnal palette, perfectly suited to the character of Conventino di Gradara.
The aim was never to fill the venue with decoration, but rather to enhance what was already there.
Flowers, music, lighting and photography were therefore carefully coordinated to create a cohesive atmosphere while allowing the architecture, gardens and natural light of the Conventino to remain at the centre of the experience.

Laura Vannucci created a natural and sophisticated floral design, using warm tones, soft textures and organic shapes.
The flowers complemented the historic character of the Conventino without overpowering it, creating a seamless connection between the wedding design and the surrounding landscape.
The result was elegant, warm and effortless.
Music between tradition and romance
Music played an important role in creating the rhythm of the celebration.
For the aperitivo, Marc and Kayleigh chose Swingarella, a local band from Le Marche with a distinctive folk-inspired style that brought energy and personality to the welcome drinks.
For their civil ceremony, they chose a completely different atmosphere, with the delicate sound of harp, violin and flute performed by Ban Ensemble.
Two very different musical moments, both perfectly suited to the mood of the day.

Lighting and atmosphere by Green Garden Luminarie
As the sun went down, Green Garden Luminarie transformed the Conventino.
A canopy of lights above the tables, delicate fairy lights among the trees and carefully positioned lighting installations created a warm atmosphere that evolved naturally from afternoon into evening.
The cake-cutting area, framed by the hanging lights and the illuminated surroundings, became one of the most atmospheric moments of the evening.
It is a beautiful example of how lighting can completely transform the feeling of a venue once the sun has set.
What makes Conventino di Gradara special for a wedding
